"How

Baseball cards’ prices have been increasing significantly over the past few years, especially vintage ones, so the chances are if you’re a long-time collector, and are thinking about selling your collection, then you’re wondering where to begin.

Selling your cards can be a somewhat daunting task, and it is often hard to know where to start.

One of the first steps to selling your collection is to begin storing and organizing your cards in an efficient and orderly manner, this will make identifying what cards are worth money and easily sortable by rarity.

This guide will advise you on how best to organize and store your cards so. That way, you too can begin showing off or selling your baseball cards.

Step 1: Identifying Your Cards

The first step to beginning any sort of organization of your cards is to identify what sort of cards you have, are your cards predominantly modern? Post-War? Pre-World War 2? Are there any particularly rare cards? Are they Autographed?

Once you’ve established what sort of cards you have, you can begin to consider how you’re going to organize your cards and how you plan on storing and displaying them!

Step 2: Decide How You’re Going To Organize

There are various different ways to begin organizing your collection, so here are some of the ways you can organize your cards in order to begin selling them!

Rarity

One of the most popular ways to sort your cards is to figure out which of your cards are the rarest, and then organize them in descending order.

Rarer cards are more likely to be the most valuable in your collection, whether they’re autographed, contain errors, or were limited runs, all of these factors can contribute to the rarity of the card.

Age

Another common way that people organize their cards is by age. Baseball cards have been produced for decades, and some of them even date pre-World War 2! Check out this amazing collection of vintage cards held on a database at the Library of Congress.

Many people decide to sort their cards into three different categories: Modern Cards, Post-War cards, and should you be lucky enough to own any, Pre-War cards.

This is a great way to organize your cards, as it lets sellers look for cards that they might be interested in quicker. As a general rule, modern cards tend to have less value, due to the volume of their production.

Sets/Teams

The other great way to organize your cards is based on either sets or teams! Some people often aim to collect complete sets of cards, so if you own most, or all of, a complete set, then it’s sensible to organize them into a set for people to find!

Whereas sorting your cards into teams will benefit you as it means that people who are fans of that specific team will find it easier to find players that they like!

Step 3: Protecting Your Cards

Card Savers

One of the biggest factors that go into your cards’ value is their condition! Especially with older cards, it’s important to ensure that your cards are kept in good condition away from any humidity or risk of being bent or scratched. There are various different types of card saver that you can consider.

Penny Sleeves

These basic card sleeves are great for putting your cards in if they’re fresh out of the pack and are also used for people who decide to store their cards in a box.

Toploaders

Toploaders are the next step up from penny sleeves, although most people use them in combination with each other.

Putting a card into a Toploader is sort of a final action, and once they’re inside there’s very little need for them to be taken out again.

They’re rigid and made of strong plastic, so there’s very little chance of your card being damaged inside.

Magnetic Cases

For the rarest and most valuable cards in your collection, a magnetic case is the best choice. It provides an excellent level of protection and is also more appealing to look at.

They are more expensive than the other options, however, so it’s why they’re best reserved for expensive cards.

Step 4: Displaying Your Cards

The next step to organizing your cards is to figure out how you’re planning to display them, once again, there are multiple ways you’re able to go about this, so here are some of the most popular methods of displaying cards.

Binders

If you collected cards when you were younger, or have been a long-time collector, there’s a good chance that you will have owned a binder at some point.

Binders allow you to store entire collections at a time and provide a general level of protection for your cards. Furthermore, they’re easy to store and even easier to search through for potential buyers!

However, if you have particularly rare cards, that you don’t wish to damage, then it is best to stay away from binders, as they might not provide the level of protection you want!

Card Boxes

Card boxes are another great way of storing cards, they can come in a variety of sizes which means they can hold as many cards as you require them to
